Arriving in Baiona after a Sporty sail.

We set sail from Camarinaš to finally get out of the Bay of Biscay. it was starting to as if the weather may start to lock us in the biscay area. Leaving Camarinas is a case of poking ones nose out and seeing what mood the sea is in once youre in it. On this day we were met with 12-15knots on the beam in seas of around 5-8ft- Acceptable. Last time out we heard reports of Iberian Orca not more than 1.5miles astern of us on the VHF. This was a concern, but to me was not at all the largest thing on my mind. For a little while now we've been working our way through solving a significant diesel bug problem. As such I had very little faith that if called upon our dear engine would cooperate. Adding to that we would be on a lee shore and likely racing for shallow water. I should note that the engine itself should never be doubted, and I apologise to it just for suggesting, but the rubbish that we've fed may cause the filters to block. in any event we've got a fuel polishing setup and a but of clean fuel along with all of the other work from recent weeks so of we go. On this passage as we as with all of the others from the channel to this point, I have found that the AROME-HD forecast is the only one with any degree of accuracy in this region. it promised a building somewhat Northerly wind, which came to be. Starting at a low Force 4 it did wain a little as we passed Cape Finisterre without issue. Shorty after the Northerly's found a little west and built to a solid Force 6 gusting 7 at times, endnote long after that the steeper larger seas joined the party. that was largely the story of this passage. but after 11hours or so of building states I was quite pleased to find that the gamble id taken to anchor close in to Baiona marina had paid off. We were just about out of all of the swell. when ever possible and once the anchor watch has satisfied all we go to shore as soon as is convenient. Our first impressions of Baiona are very positive, so we enjoyed a Cervesa had a bit of a stroll and then called it a day.
