A new experience like none other before (for me)

There are many important jobs to do on any boat. The bigger the boat the more things to go wrong. I started sailing about 6 months ago and have learnt a lot in that time from engine oil changes to how to deal with severe diesel bug and how to sail entirely. Compared to living on land it is totally different what would be considered a room too small to live in on land is a room bigger than would be found on a 70 ft yacht. Maybe a slight exaggeration but it is true I share a room and there isn’t enough space for both of us to do more than stand up shoulder to shoulder. Rooms being messy is common now as the size of the room means with only three shirts on the floor there is no more floor entirely. Sailing itself is unlike any other sport because it isn’t just a sport it’s life. Falling asleep and waking up to the boat heeling and hanging off the edge of the bed is fairly normal to me now. The best workout is raising sails huge sheets of fabric weighing the same as a small child that take the pressure of 20 kn of wind like it’s nothing. Our boat likes to motor though at 30 tonnes she won’t sail unless there is at least 15 kn of wind. It’s exciting though constantly having a new place to explore and new places to see from huge cities where there is so little space gardens are on the roofs of other buildings and car parks have to be underground to quiet villages and towns that no one would ever go to by plane. Where local children are free to run around and old crafts like lacemaking and old wash houses still exist. Being in the boat is cramped at first and one person snoring can be heard across the boat but it doesn’t take too long to get used to. Despite being small to someone not used to boats Juna is rather big and can sleep up to 10 people making it so we can have people over. It’s a very new experience and a very exciting start so far to a new journey and I can’t wait to see where it takes me…
