Nata!

After over an hour bike ride battling the cobbled streets of Lisbon we decided to go on a quest for the well known pastel de nata. Mum and I have wanted since we got to Portugal. The reason we had to go all this way is because Pastéis de Belém is the home of the nata and to this day haven’t changed the recipe. The history of this small Portuguese egg tart is that many years ago monks used egg whites to starch clothes and as a result had an abundance of egg yolks. To use all these yolks they created the nata and sold the recipe to a nearby sugar refinery who are now Pastéis de Belém. This treat is now known worldwide and whether eaten with or without cinnamon and powdered sugar it is a tasty treat enjoyed by all.
